Amidst nature and culture at Belvedere Palace (8.1 km)
Go straight ahead from the hotel entrance across Beethovenplatz and into the park. Turn right along the park path after passing the two giant stone chairs. Turn left at the next fork and pass the ruins of the "Knights Templar" salon on your right. A few metres further on, head down the steps to the River Ilm, crossing the river via the small bridge. Turn to the right beyond the bridge and head along the banks of the Ilm until the path meets up with a larger park alley next to Goethe's garden house. Turn right and follow the alley to the end of the park.
Continue along this alley, passing the German Bee Museum on your right; cross Hauptstrasse and enter Klosterweg. Continue round the church, then head to the right across the bridge over the Ilm. Continue straight ahead along Pappelallee until it leads into the road. Cross the road and head up Wiesenstrasse which, in its turn, joins up with Belvederer Allee. Cross the road and you will reach a footpath which you should follow to the left as it slowly climbs towards the palace gardens.
On reaching the palace gardens, continue to follow the same path as it takes a gentle turn to the right until you are directly in front of the palace itself. Circle round the fountain and - still directly in front of the palace - go past it to the left, then immediately turning along the second path to the left. Follow this path until you come to a small garden surrounded by a hedge. Keep on going, heading towards the red brick tower at the right corner of the building. This is an excellent vantage point, offering you a breathtaking view of Weimar!
The route then continues down a small steep path from the tower. Once you have reached the bottom, turn straight left. At the next branch in the road you should head to the right around the small palace pond. The path leads back to Belvederer Allee, down which you should head again along the footpath. Just before reaching the hotel, turn right into the park and left at the next fork, immediately left again, crossing Beethovenplatz and then heading back to the hotel.
A challenging route, but one which rewards the effort involved with a whole range of tremendous jogging impressions!
A detailed handout is available containing jogging and walking route directions.
