Weimar - Großkochberg
The Goethe hiking trail is marked by a white G on a green background and is equipped with information boards and postmarks in the villages along the way. At the tourist information office in Weimar a small hiking guide to this trail is available.
Goethe took this path between 1775 and 1788 countless times, always with the aim of meeting his Charlotte von Stein at her family home. The hike to Großkochberg starts in Weimar at Wielandplatz.
Places of interest along the route: Goethehaus, Weimarhaus, Fürstengruft, Vollersroda: village church, Buchfart: Covered medieval wooden bridge, church with valuable winged altar, Buchfarter caves on the northern slope of the Ilmtal valley, Randanger village with its spinning room, castle (former water castle), castle museum, amateur theatre and concert hall, Luis tower.
