South of Weimar, the moated castle Kochberg with its park and the amateur theatre Kochberg is waiting for you. The castle was the former manor house of the von Stein family and became famous through the many visits of Goethe. The castle was used by Charlotte and her first son as a very convivial place for celebrations and musical entertainment.
Today the castle is still completely preserved and shines in the old charm of the Renaissance with its palace park, the nursery, a patronage church and a free-standing theatre. The castle is largely furnished with original furniture from this period and the highlight is the writing cabinet in the room where Goethe lived during his visits.
Furthermore, the castle is a very artistic place - paintings tell the family history, drawings and writings by Goethe illustrate the meaning of this place for him and on the ground floor there is an exhibition about the history of the castle.
Enjoy and feel the romance radiating from this place, which Goethe and Charlotte couldn't resist.
Distance from the hotel approx. 32 km

A unique gem is the "Liebhabertheater" with only 75 seats, built around 1800 and carefully restored. Visitors can experience outstanding artists at close quarters in the intimate atmosphere of a historic private theatre.
On the weekends from May to October, opera and theatre performances as well as chamber concerts with works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods will entice the audience. The organizers attach particular importance to the maintenance of historical performance practice. It is not without reason that the theatre belongs to the Europastraße Historische Theater.
